Catching Up Before Lifting Off

My apologies for the lack of activity around here recently. Things have been hectic as we prepare to take off for Ireland next week. This could be my last post for a while, but who knows. Just to summarize a few major happenings….

There is a pretty amazing tribute to the Hawaiian immersion students and in particular those at Ānuenue School on O‘ahu on Billy V’s HawaiianBroadcast.com. Check it out, very moving.

Pakele Live A Great Show

I had a great time at the Pakele Lounge last night. ‘Ike Pono and Melveen Leed performed as the peformance was streamed out via the ‘net as part of the Pakele Live concert series. Billy V. emceed, Kenneth and Tasha Makaukāne, Aunty Genoa and Eric Keawe and Pali Ka‘aihue were also in attendance. ‘Ike Pono sounded great. Melveen’s performance using a digital keyboard got off to a shaky start as there were audio problems, but switched to ‘ukulele, was joined by ‘Ike Pono and Billy V. (on guitar!) for the rest of the evening and it was smooth sailing the rest of the way with some Hawaiian standards and her signature Hawaiian country sound. The Pakele Live website doesn’t show any specific future show dates, but does say that Maunalua, Sean Na’auao, Kamau, Jay Larrin, Tony C, Natalie Ai Kamau’u, Weldon Kekauoha, Ilona Irvine, and Jerry Santos will be featured in future webcasts.
