Hawai‘i Albums In Other Grammy Categories

I’m slowly working my way though the Grammy preliminary ballot lists and have come across a few Hawai‘i artists in areas other than the Hawaiian Grammy Category:

  • Barefoot Natives: Best Contemporary Folk/Americana Album (for “Slack Key Circus”)
  • Paul Shimomoto: Album of the Year, Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album, Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical (for “Sentimental Alibi”)
  • Matt Cutingub Orchestra of Hawai‘i: Best Pop Vocal Album, Best Instrumental Arrangement Accompanying Vocalist (for “Back To Romance”)

Anyone know of others I missed? Don’t ask me about to look in the Reggae category for anyone – not interested. ;-)

Hawaiian Music Around The Web on October 3rd

My Hawaiian music links for October 3rd:

  • Island Mele – Starbulletin.com – This week John reviews new slack key releases from Agnes Kimura and the Slack Key Kings, as well as "Let's Luau", a collection of nostalgia tunes with some appeal to the visitor market.

I do take issue with John's statement "…give Lau credit for spelling Kaapana's name correctly this time – without the modern 'okina!" I wouldn't characterize it as correct or incorrect – Lau spells it as Led prefers it to be spelled, assumably because that is how his family has spelled it. No problem there.
